Microsoft kooperiert mit Foursquare – Datenbanken für Windows (Phone) und Bing
Was man selbst nicht hat, das kauft man sich eben. Dieses Prinzip ist nicht neu und auch Microsoft macht davon gebrauch. Es handelt sich zwar “nur” um eine Kooperation und nicht um einen Kauf, aber Geld fließt trotzdem. Es geht um Foursquare beziehungsweise um deren Datenbanken. Diese will Microsoft für künftige Windows (Phone) Versionen sowie für Bing benutzen.
Bei Foursquare handelt es sich um ein soziales Netzwerk für standortbezogene Daten, also für Restaurants, Bars und vielen weiteren Einrichtungen. Nach eigenen Angaben hat Foursquare bereits 60 Millionen Datensätze und 45 Millionen Nutzer. Microsoft verfügt bei Bing bereits über eine ähnliche Funktion, allerdings ist diese nicht annähernd so gut ausgebaut und vor allem gibt es nicht so viele Bewertungen und Meinungen zu den verschiedenen Plätzen. Microsoft plant also eine Bereicherung für das Windows (Phone) sowie um das damit verbundene Bing.
Die Aktion kostet natürlich auch Geld, was auch kein Geheimnis mehr ist. Die Summe wird zwar nicht offiziell verkündet, allerdings geht das “Wall Street Journal” von 15 Millionen US-Dollar kosten aus, was für Microsoft nicht sehr viel Geld ist.
